Carey Lovelace has had over fifty productions of her works including at 59e59 Theaters, ensemble Studio Theatre, Bay Street Theatre, the Samuel French One-act Festival (2006 finalist), and the BMI Music Theatre Workshop. Her 16-scene dark comedy Couple Counseling recently played to sold-out houses at the 2009 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. It received its world premiere at the ReDCaT Theatre in the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, and was produced in 2008 by the Manhattan Rep Theatre. She has been a finalist, semi-finalist, and won honorable mentions in numerous competitions, including winning the Maxim Mazundar One-act Play Competition. at BMI, she is a member of the Librettists Workshop and audited the Lehman engels Music Theatre Workshop; she is a member of the actors Studio P/D Workshop. For many years, she participated in ensemble Studio Theatre's Citylab, under the direction of the late Curt Dempster. She is a co-principal in the Theatre company Loose Change Productions. She is also an art journalist and served as co-president of the International association of art Critics. She has written about the art world for over a decade and a half and has curated exhibitions at the Bronx Museum, the Drawing Center in New York and the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary art.

Ask It

Synopsis:
In the middle of the night, Drew, a 30-something insurance executive, is awoken by a strange intruder, a gainless, overweight woman who claims to be her guardian angel, here to fulfill her wish-only there's something fishy about the whole thing. Couples Counseling

Synopsis:
Couples Counseling is a stylized, satirical and humorous play between a therapist and his patients who are undergoing a marital crisis. the play employs stylized grammar that creates meaningful dialogue but simultaneously deploys varying layers of rhythm and texture, characters often speaking in broken or fragmented sentences, creating a kind of musical tapestry. It references Freud's theories on sexuality, the Pleasure Principle, the Death Instinct, showing how seemingly random gestures often have a much greater meaning. Characters explore love, lust and all that stands in between; we are reminded of how difficult it is to express feelings, and how they frequently take their forms in other ways, including silence.

Last Light

Synopsis:
On the first day of their marriage, a celebrated writer announces to his much younger and star struck wife his sudden realization of the emptiness of artistic striving. He wants to leave everything-that very day-to travel to a remote, windswept place deeply meaningful to him in his youth. He wants her to be part of a new life he starts there. But she suspects he is running away, afraid he is unable to finish a landmark series of books to cap his career-and she has banked everything on being part of his accomplished life, at last being introduced to cultural icons she longs to meet. as they negotiate whether they will actually leave to honor what seems the more they talk a life-or-death desire, the two confront the fact their whirlwind courtship has allowed unfounded fantasies about one another to grow.

Stormy Waters, The Long Way Home, The

Synopsis:
a woman on a chilly, fog-wrapped beach in early morning waits for others. Gradually, we realize that things are not what they seem. the Stormy Waters, the Long Way Home was inspired by a crest of sandy dunes on the Sagaponack beach and a group of friends, artists, who meet there on summer's days. One of them, the video-artist wife of a well known architect, with a relaxed melancholy beauty, was kind of the group's gravity center. against the natural order of things, she fell ill at a relatively young age; she fought a valiant battle to the death. the piece is about the enduring tug of friendship, about profound love-of the ocean, of one another, of partners even when they are selfish and unfair. Like the tides, they bring us back again and again.
