Florencia Lozano was born in Princeton, New Jersey (16 Dec 1969) and moved to Newton Centre, MA when she was 2. Her parents are from Argentina. She went to public school in Newton and then attended Brown University, where she received a BA in Comparative Literature in 1991. She received an MFA at NYU's graduate acting program in 1996. Paul Walker, Ron van Lieu, Jim Calder, Deb Hecht, Paula Vogel, David Savarin and Tori Haring-Smith are important mentors. She studied dance, her first love, with Pamela Ferri and Marie Paquet, while still in Boston. Becoming a member of LAByrinth Theatre Company, and later LAB's literary manager and associate artistic director under John Ortiz and Phillip Hoffman, was a crucial part of Florencia's evolution as a theatre artist and as a person. She is deeply grateful for and indebted to LAB and to the various other theatre communities of which she is a part, including: Ensemble Studio Theatre, New York Theatre Workshop, Rising Phoenix (she is hugely indebted to Daniel Talbot, who was responsible for her plays being produced in NYC), Rattlestick Playwrights' Theatre, and the playwrighting group at HB studios run by Laura Shane Cunningham. Florencia's play: underneathmybed was directed by Pedro Pascal and produced by the Rattlestick Playwrights' Theatre in December of 2010 under the artistic direction of David van Asselt and the executive direction of Brian Long. underneathmybed won HOLA's Best New Play Award that year and Vanessa Aspillaga, who played "Daisy", won HOLA's award for Best Female Performance. Ms. Aspillaga was also nominated for a Drama League Award for her performance as "Daisy". Florencia's play girl in window has been read at LAB, Rattlestick and at NYTW, under the direction of Chay Yew.Two of her short plays Sheila, Jack, Clare Danes and The Man on My Roof and Bitch and Charlie Go Back To Charlie's House were read at the Public theatre in NYC. Monologues from her first play under her breath were published in a collection of monologues entitled "Monologues For Women, By Women" by Heinemann Press. Florencia is also an actress who works in tv, theatre and film. In addition, she creates site-specific guerilla theatre performance art pieces.She lives in Manhattan with her cat, Lorca.
