Angus MacLachlan graduated from the North Carolina School of the Arts and has performed with Charlotte Repertory Theatre, Manbites Dog Theater, Barter Theatre, and North Carolina Black Repertory Company, and he has appeared in the films Reuben, Reuben and Ramin Bahrani's Goodbye Solo. His writing for film includes Tater Tomater, Stone, Junebug (2005 Best Screenplay, International Cinephile Society; Special Mention for Excellence in Filmmaking, National Board of Review), and Fortroligheten (2013 Golden Goblet for Best Screenplay, Shanghai International Film Festival). In 2013 he wrote and directed the film Goodbye to All That, which premiered in competition at the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival and was released by IFC in December 2014. He has also written for the Lives column of the New York Times Magazine, Gramaphone's Inside Sundance Institute, and Smithsonian Magazine. Angus has written and performed three one-man shows: BOUND AND GAGGED, BUENA VISTA, and MARGINAL LIVING. His play THE DEAD EYE BOY (2000 Lois and Richard Rosenthal New Play Prize) premiered at Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, opened in New York City at Manhattan Class Company in April 2001, and opened in Londons Hampstead Theatre in January 2002. THE RADIANT ABYSS was commissioned by Woolly Mammoth Theatre in 2002, premiered at the Kennedy Center in June 2004, and was produced by Profiles Theatre Company in Chicago in 2005. SOUTHEASTERN CENTER FOR CONTEMPORARY ARTS was commissioned by the Old Globe Theatre in 2008 and premiered at Burning Coal Theatre in 2010. ABUNDANT ACREAGE AVAILABLE (2012 New Play Award, Actors Contemporary Theater) was part of the Williamstown Theater Festivals Fridays@3 reading series in 2012. THE DEAD EYE BOY and THE RADIANT ABYSS are published by Dramatists Play Service.

Synopsis:
Ethan, a successful independent filmmaker, is sweating over casting his newest project in his hometown of Winston-Salem when Spencer, a newly-minted adjunct theatre professor, auditions for the lead. Their mutual attraction is immediate, and they start a charming and amusing dance of personal and professional, eroticism. Ethans smart and witty older sister, Liz, is thrown into the mix. She supports herself as a hairdresser; her acting career, and her hopes, have derailed a bit with time. A subtly comedic story set in the creative world, EMERGING ARTIST GRANT explores how we struggle to make something of our lives, and it questions the moral crises we encounter when trying for our dreams.

Radiant Abyss, The

Synopsis:
Fuel the feral, dynamic, native smarts of forty-year-old Erin Skidmore, a sexy survivor of an abusive marriage, with the arrival of the shadowy but self-righteous religious men of The Garden of Paradise Cultural Oasis, recently ensconced in the same strip mall, next door to her property management office, and Erin's naturally high octane engine revs into Mach 5. She seduces her former employee and current sex-puppy, twenty-three-year-old nighttime security guard Steve Enloe (never just "Steve") into roping his current girlfriend, Erin, a seemingly innocent, will-o-the-wisp Kinko's girl, into a scheme to investigate and possibly vandalize the "so-called church," an organization that may or may not believe in violence to promote their ends. Nothing is as it seems, and the unfathomable mysteries of God, religion, bigotry, suspicion, love and sexual rapture constellate all three strivers into doing and not doing what they believe is right. Into truth-telling and lying to get what they want. Into revealing and hiding their true fears and feelings. Until a pregnancy, a longstanding betrayal and a cataclysmic act of real terrorism overtake them and change everything for everyone, leaving in the wake no clear path to follow.
