Santa Cruz
Synopsis:
We're deep in noir territory here. We have gangsters, soiled innocents and femmes fatales holed up in the old plantation house in Bolivia, waiting for destiny and the rains.they havesomething of 'Key Largo', spiced with a Tennessee Williams like sense of decadence. elvira is the lynch-pin, the ageing blonde on the run for murder, growing cocoa leaves under cover of a timber business and attracting the usual selection of parasites, lovers and revengers to her flame. Presented with flowers, she puts them in a flask of tequila, because 'they'll die quicker that way'. She may control her men, but she cannot escape tragedy - especially seeing as every single person turning up on her doorstep has an angle on everyone else. Passionate love, or deadly hate, there is no other motivation.
