Delicious Rivers
Synopsis:
This is a new music-theater work from the Talking Band. Set in a New York City post office, it follows the lives of four postal workers and three neighborhood apartment dwellers whose lives are intertwined in a variety of ways. they are joined by three musicians whose harmonies weave together with the characters' conversations to create a rich musical setting. Composer/author ellen Maddow collaborated with mathematician Marjorie Senechal to create Delicious Rivers, exploring the areas where the interests of theatre and mathematics intersect: the pleasure of deductive reasoning and the solution of a mystery, obsession with the relationship between order and the unexpected, and the search for and delight in the discovery of pattern and meaning.

In this house of multiple realities--often hidden from one another--live a group of people whose identities and relationships unfold in surprising ways in each new episode. the house is a hub, a crossroads, and a battleground in a struggle for survival between generations; between old ways of doing business and the new global economics.

Painted Snake In A Painted Chair
Synopsis:
PaINTeD SNaKe IN a PaINTeD CHaIR is a story of five long-time friends, whose unexpected friendship is as solid and intense as a family's. the character's stories unfold in a manner that induces the sensation of reading a novel: one savors the discovery of seemingly disparate events until they are ultimately linked together. the house where they meet also functions as a character in the play. When they gather there they feel hyper-real and larger-than-life. On the evening in which the play is set, they gather to expel a swarm of bees that have moved into the attic. as a result, the house reveals some of its mysterious secrets. Music amplifies the heightened sense of meaning the friends have when they are together. It pours forth suddenly from unexpected places: when someone lifts the lid of a pot of soup, switches on a lamp, or sinks down onto a sofa, drenching the atmosphere with mystery, hunger, fear or beauty.
