Israela Margalit is an award-winning, critically acclaimed playwright and television writer, concert pianist, and recording artist. Her play Trio, a drama, premiered at the Moscow Soveremenick Theater, became an instant hit, and played throughout Russia and Ukraine for over six years, followed by an ovation-recommended production in Los Angeles, and a cutting-edge production at the Pecks Theater Festival in Hungary, Best Actor, Best Actress Awards. Her other drama Night Blooming Jasmine premiered at the Tribeca Playhouse, New York, and has recently received a second New York staging at Under St. Marks Theater. Her comedy, 3 O'clock in Brooklyn premiered at Access Theater, New York, and another comedy, First Prize premiered at the Arclight, New York. Her one-act comedy Get Me a Guy was first seen at the Midtown Madness Festival in New York, and won Outstanding Production at The New York Midtown International Theater Festival where it also was nominated for Outstanding Writing. The full-length version of Get Me a Guy was produced at Under St. Marks Theater, New York. Her short drama On the Bench was awarded Best Play, Honorary Mention at the 14th New York Short Play Festival. She studied philosophy, political science and literature at Case Western Reserve, and is the recipient of Lake Eerie College Hon. Doctorate in Humane Letters. She speaks Hebrew, English, French, and German, and writes in English. She wrote television specials for ZDF, Transtel/Deutsche-Welle/PBS, Arts & Entertainment, and Russia 1, including a celebrated series with Sir Peter Ustinov. Her shows were aired in more than twenty countries and were awarded the Gold Medal at The New York Film and TV Festival, two NEA Media Awards, an EMMY nomination, a Finalist's Certificate of Merit at the Long Island Film Festival, and a Permanent Display at the New York Museum of Broadcasting. She has appeared in concerts in Israel since she was twelve. She studied music in Tel-Aviv, Paris, and Munich. She appeared as a soloist with the world's greatest orchestras, including the Berlin, Munich, London, and Moscow Philharmonics, and the American Big Five of New York, Cleveland, Chicago, Boston, and Philadelphia. She toured extensively in the US, South America, Western and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and the Far East. She has recorded extensively for EMI, Universal Classics and Jazz (UCJ), DECCA, Chandos, Black Box, Resonance, and Koch International, including recordings with the London Philharmonic, The Moscow Philharmonic, and The London Symphony Orchestra, and received many awards including Best CD, the British Music Industry Award. She has two children, Ilann and Fiona Maazel. She lives in New York
