Joe Martin is the author of over 40 plays and adaptations for the stage, some of which are included in Conspiracies: Six Plays by Joe Martin. He is a two time recipient of Rockefeller Foundation grants (the US-Mexico Fund for Culture and a New Forms grant through Painted Bride) and two senior Fulbright fellowships, and has received multiple Arts grants from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities. He has translated and/or adapted for the stage Rumi's Mathnavi; Strindberg's A Dream Play, the Ghost Sonata and the Dance of Death; Jens Bjporneboe's Semmelweis;Buchner's Woyzeck; H.C. Anderson's the Match Girl's Snow Queen; and Schiller'sthe Robbers, among many others.

Lion Tale

Synopsis:
the animals in the forest have agreed to send one of their own to the Lion each day so that he will not go on a rampage and destroy their lives. But when the trickster Rabbit is chosen to be sacrificed, he comes up with a plan to appeal to the Lion's ego and possibly save the animals forever. Lion Taleblends a variety of musical styles (gospel, rap, folk music) with traditional African dance to create a truly unique comedy.
