Mairead Martin (aka Mairead Bush) is from the Isle of Skye. She was chosen for the Playwright's Studio 2007 Mentorship Scheme, which resulted in the completed 60-minute play entitled "Sapna." This play was then shortlisted for the Tron Open Stage Awards. A section of Sapna previewed at the Centre for Contemporary Arts and at the Traverse Theatre for their annual event Words Words Words. Mairead successfully completed Shed Media's MA TV Fiction Writing course and was awarded Script of the Year by Ann McManus and Maureen Chadwick. Soon after completing the Masters, Mairead was selected by the BBC's Online Drama Writing School E20, class of 2012 where she sent in scripts. The shortlisted E20 Writers are still to be selected for the next season of E20's Online drama. Producer, Martyn Robertson of Urbancroft, requested Mairead's insights into the development of his short film entitled 'Paperboys.' Chris Young of Young films requested Mairead's presence at a Gaelic workshop group on the Isle of Skye to determine the next generation of Scottish Gaelic speaking writers. She was invited to Cove Park for a Writers' Residency with the National Theatre of Scotland and to Tulchan Lodge with the Playwrights' Studio Scotland. She enjoyed both retreats greatly. Mairead was one of the ten writers selected for ScreenHi's Hi Wireless Drama Writing Programmeand wrote a radio script which was then recorded at The BBC'S Pacific Quay in Glasgow. She translated Katie Morag into Gaelic. These two episodes are due to be aired on BBC Alba in 2015.
