Come In From the Rain

Synopsis:
When handsome gay hustler Tom wakes up in Mike's apartment he won't believe Mike is a virgin and accuses Mike of playing games like most other "clients" he has encountered. Mike stands his ground and wants "something better" than gratuitous sex. Slowly each molds the other into being a whole person.

Notes:
Originally titled But Mostly Because It's Raining, "Rain" was the winner of the Jane Chambers Memorial International Gay Play Writing Contest Play in 1983. It has had several productions in NYC, one produced by John Glines at the Courtyard Theater titled How Many Tomorrows. Minor changes from the original have been made to bring the play into the present. The play, especially the original written before the "aids" era is in a sense a historical piece in its depiction of how difficult it was for some to admit being gay, let alone to "come out".

Spirits Willing

Synopsis:
Julio covets "Mother's" property. "Mother" is determined never to sell but covets money. Voluptuous Violette, with the help of her brother Nicola devises a plot to make a deal: mother gets a peek at Julio's phallus plus monthly payments as long as she lives. Instead of expiring as expected the old lady grows stronger. Obsessed with doing her in, Julio gets her addicted to brandy. The old lady dies. In his excitement Julio's heart gives out and we discover that Nicola is really Violette's secret lover. Spirits Willing is also available in a longer version in which the audience is let in on the machinations of Violette and Nicola. They lie that the mother has died bringing on Julio's stroke which leaves him paralyzed. Mother gleefully becomes his nurse. Violette having won the day, betrays Nicola for another lover, Nicola's widowed father.

Notes:
SPIRITS WILLING was inspired by the short story "The Little Cask" by Guy de Paussant. Publicity text has described it as a "deliciously wicked" recipe for great comedy: Take a lusty young woman, marry her to an older man who, shall we say is well endowed, mix in a handsome younger brother, stir in a lascivious hag and her huge dog Quido, whisk in generous portions of greed and handfuls of duplicity, then wait thirty seconds for the fun and laughter to begin.
