Synopsis:
Actors and Poets Group, a New York-based nonprofit theater company, is presenting Voices From Guantanamo, a theatrical adaptation of poetry written by detainees held at the U.S. detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The poems were written with little expectation of ever reaching an audience beyond a small circle of fellow prisoners. But volunteer lawyers working with the detainees became aware of the poems, some originally scratched on foam drinking cups or traced with toothpaste. Of the thousands of verses that were composed, the lawyers managed to get 22 cleared for release by the U.S. Military after painstaking efforts
