Selected for the Royal Court/BBC Writersroom 50 scheme in 2006/7, The Traverse Emerging Writers project in 2007 and Channel 4's Pilot Scheme in 2007/8. Worked as an actor with companies such as The Royal Lyceum, Citizens Theatre, Perth Rep, 7:84, Communicado and Borderline, TV and film appearances in Murphy's Law, Keen Eddie, Gary's War and My Name Is Joe. Simon has also led writing workshops with young people in Ayrshire and single mother's group in Falkirk. Has written several stage plays including Shadow Boxing which was nominated for Meyer Whitworth award and Time Watching which was short-listed for Verity Bargate award. Other theatre work includes Balgay Hill which was performed at Dundee Rep and three plays for OranMor. He has also written four commissioned plays for Birds of Paradise Theatre Company. For Radio 4 has had two plays produced The Last Ten (2005), Velvet Love (2007) and for BBC Scotland Lochpool Nights (2009). For young people he has written U.N for Raindog Youngblood Company and Still Life for Birds of Paradise. He has also worked on writer's projects with young people for North Ayrshire Council and in the Highlands and islands with TOSG. He has also carried out drama and writing workshops with all ages throughout Scotland, including a single mothers group in Falkirkand most recently with Birds of Paradise and Whiteinch community centre on Whyt Inch Tales and Barclay Curle's Welding Girls in April 2013. He is currently working on a radio version of A Sgeirfor Sabhl Mor in Skye. As an actor Simon has worked with many theatre companies inScotlandand has worked in Shanghai, Rio and South Korea.
