Joan McGillivray has been writing for theatre for over twenty years and has had her work produced in Drama Festivals in the ACT and NSW. Her work includes plays for young people and historical plays as well as plays dealing with topical issues. She has written and performed five-minute plays which have been performed at the Street Theatre in Canberra, and has had plays adapted for public radio. One of her short plays was performed at the opening night of the 2001 Australian Playwrights Conference, and another was included in Short and Sweet 'Best of the Rest' in Sydney. 'Landing Delayed' was awarded Best Original Script at the Canberra Festival of One-Act Plays im 2004 and 'First Firing' was nominated in 2006.

First Firing
Synopsis:
Tracy is angry - a holiday in Fiji has had to be cancelled because her mother, Chris, has been asked to speak at a national conference on childcare. She storms out of the house and doesn't come home that night. When she is picked up by the police in a bar, her Aunt Ruth, a potter, is contacted. In the past, Ruth put aside her own ambitions to care for Tracy while Chris advanced her career. But all that is about to change...

Landing Delayed
Synopsis:
A chance encounter at an airport, a delayed flight, and two middle-aged people strike up a conversation about their grown children who will soon clear customs. It seems as if their attitudes to race and immigration are very different, but they have more in common than they realise.
