Dave McGinnis lives and works in FloridA. His plays focus primarily on mythical struggles in the American West, generally focusing on the Texas Panhandle region - his original birthplace. Over the years, McGinnis' plays have been staged at Theatres across the country and abroad. His plays are generally referred to as "highly theatrical," due mostly to his stints as actor, director, and lighting designer - all of which came prior to his start as a playwright.

Synopsis:
Will Mickelson's Father Harold has long detested their neighbor Pete Watson, but for reasons undefined. Now, Will has fallen in love with Pete's daughter Tammy, forcing to light the place from which Will's life itself - and Harold's hatred of Pete - might have come.

Every Word

Synopsis:
Todd and Sarah, two wayward orphans, wander into what seems to be an abandoned house in the wilderness. they find instead a tribe of children who, under the guidance of the two oldest - Miriam and Ingram - have established a culture of their own. Sarah, the younger of the two, quickly gives in to Miriam's seductions, forcing Todd to play a tug-of-war over his sister that ultimately teaches him how the children of this house survive at the cost of his life.

Long One-Act. Still seeking theatres interested in Assisting with development, As this play is not yet "complete". Fall of Hannibal, General of Carthage, The

Synopsis:
In a faux history, Hannibal - the Carthaginian general who plagued Rome during the Second Punic War - has garnered every victory Carthage has managed. To spur his comrades to greater heights - and perhaps out of his own spite - the high priest, Tutorius, sacrifices Hannibal's son without Hannibal's knowledge. This sets Hannibal to find and slay his son's killer, only to lead him to blast his wrath upon the home he swore to defend.

Notes:
Full-Length. Large, male-dominated cast. Minimal staging encouraged. One of the male roles requires A child, which could be played by A girl. Double casting, As possible per company, is recommended.

Gator Claw

Synopsis:
Along the Gulf banks of the Sabine River where Texas and Louisiana meet, Jasper and "Porky" Fisher have kept the family business of holding onto others' junk alive after their parents' deaths. Tonight, though, Porky receives a visit from a wealthy girl from across the river - on the Louisiana side - by the name of Mary Beth. Porky has no idea, however, that Jasper and Mary Beth have a past of their own that resulted in the drowning of their illegitimate son. By the end of the evening, three lives decay to waste as Porky finds his way to the place where the child died: the water he has feared for so long.

Highways in Dm

Synopsis:
Numerous people tell their stories living along a deserted highway traveled only by passers-through en route to more pleasant vistas. Bandits have taken over this stretch of road, but one man - the Highwayman - who lost his own wife and daughter to these men, now kills them for sport and the solace of an enemy's scream. He finds no consolation, but as we bear witness, he takes note of the hole he will never fill.

Notes:
Monologue Collection meant to be performed As one evening. Initial readings used only one male And one female Actor, but A theatre could use As many As Available or desired. Great vehicle for versatile performers. NOT RECOMMENDED FOR FAMILY theATRES! Rated "R" At the very least. Can be performed with three lighting fixtures, Almost no Audio, And zero scenery.

Pretty Much Terrible Tragedy of One Opie Diggs, The

Synopsis:
Based on the classic tale of Oedipus Rex, this play - a semi-finalist at the Texas Nonprofit theatres POPS competition - places Opie Diggs at the head of the Touch a' thebes Trailer Estates Homeowners' Association, and he has a conundrum. the water's gone bad, and he has to figure out why. It ain't enough he has to put up with his two couldn't-be-more-opposite daughters or his never-seen sons, or even his insanely older wife; he has to fix EVERYTHING! Sure enough, Opie finds out that his wife's his mom and his daughters are his sisters, so he drinks himself blind on grain alcohol and wanders off to die. Lo and behold, he ends up at the COLONIES, whose homeowners' association is run by Terry, a man who once wrestled down a bull with his bare hands. Opie's stopped here because he wants to die now, but the Colonies' residents don't take to outsiders. After a bit of warming up, they finally agree to burn to him death like he asks. Suddenly, though, he suffers a change of heart and dies in the Bingo hall.

Notes:
Full-Length. Requires one unit set for Act I And Another for Act II. Minimal lighting/audio necessary, but some effects Are required (simulated fire, etc.). Double casting recommended where company/cast Allows for it.

Tascosa Road

Synopsis:
Mark and Mary have divorced, but Mark has come back to retrieve the sheath for his beloved Ka-Bar knife. On this night, Mary expects a bit of company in the form of Andrew, who has no idea what awaits him inside the house. As Mark toys with Andy, Mary toys with Mark, ultimately forcing Mark to come face-to-face with the remains of the fetus he tore from within her the last time he beat her. In the end, all three are destroyed, and though their bodies walk on, their souls die before our eyes.

Notes:
One-Act. Indoor unit set required. Lighting/audio minimal. Requires one chest of drawers rigged to be stabbed And reused.

Bill Montgomery, a failing Texas Farmer during the Dust Bowl, inadvertently sells his unborn son's soul in an effort to save the family farm.
