CAROLINE UPCHER aka Hope McIntyre was born in London and, as the daughter of a British army officer, grew up in Holland, Germany, the Sudan and Paris before returning to school in England. At eighteen, she was a junior literary agent in London before working in the film industry as a script editor and production assistant for twelve years. Her subsequent publishing career has included being Editorial Director at Pan/Macmillan, Random House UK, Heinemann, Fourth Estate, and in New York she was editorial consultant for Miramax Books. She now edits freelance for HarperCollins, New York. She is the author of fourteen novels, most recently of mysteries written under the name Hope McIntyre. She is also the author of SWAN, the controversial novel published in 1994, written under a pseudonym for the supermodel Naomi Campbell. Her journalism has appeared in The Times, The Observer, the Evening Standard, Mirabella, GQ and other Conde Nast titles. She lives in Exmoor, Devon and Rhinebeck, NY . [photo credit Betina Laplante]

Have Mercy
Synopsis:
Can murder be an act of love? Based on a true story, "Have Mercy" explores a case of infanticide as a result of incest. Using excerpts from actual court documents, newspaper articles and letters to the minister of justice the piece also explores the community's reaction to the events. Ultimately, through the relationship between mother and daughter "Have Mercy" explores the journey to healing and forgiveness.
