K. J. McKenna was born in South Shields in 1948. He left school aged 14 to work in a hardware shop. After a spell in the Army and on British Railways, he began studying to get the education he had been denied. Aged 23 he gained entrance to the University of Sheffield where he read Russian, English and Political theory. He began a career as a singer, actor and writer, appearing with many of the top stars of the time. After graduating from university, he went to Florence to teach English as a foreign language and upon returning to England, began post-graduate studies in Education at the University of Newcastle. He began teaching in 1979, in Bedford. In 2002, after 28 years teaching, he got into a fight with cancer and was eventually forced to give up work. Kevin McKenna now lives in Lucca, Italy, still fighting the cancer. His writing includes plays, stories, songs and journalism. Kevin McKenna passed away on 31st May 2010 after losing his fight with cancer.(Moore [moore@greenbee.net])
