Richard Medugno has written numerous plays, many of which have been staged and several have been published. A graduate of the UC Irvine School of Fine Arts, Richard's work has been produced by many small theatres across the US. Richards memoir Deaf Daughter, Hearing Father was published by Gallaudet University Press in 2005. His drama for hearing and Deaf actors Silent Salzburg was produced at the California School for the Deaf in Fremont and the Pensacola Opera Company in 2006 and 2008, respectively. Richard's short play Cyrano Truncated received critical acclaim in San Francisco at Pianofights Short Lived 2.0 in 2009 and was a 2013 finalist for the Actors Theatre of Louisville Heideman Award. Richards one-act adaptation of Gogols short story The Overcoat was staged by Arclight Repertory Theatre of San Jose in 2010. The Overcoat and his adaptation of Gogols short story The Nose were published by Playscripts.com in the spring of 2011 under the title Gogols St. Petersburg Stories. Richard collaborated with Oregon Shakespeare Festival actor Howie Seago on an epic drama titled Preying Hands. The new piece received a round table reading with OSF company members in Ashland, 2011 and a staged reading at Deaf Spotlight in Seattle, 2012. It was published in May, 2014. In April 2012, Richard had a workshop production of The Captive Flowers - a full-length play at City Lights Theatre in San Jose. Richard has also acted in Unspoken and Sonnet 29, two short films.

Captive Flowers, The
Synopsis:
The Captive Flowers is the story of a family of adult women, one domineering mother and five daughters headed for spinsterhood, living alone and loving only each other, in a small town in 1890 France. When Vincent Van Gogh moves in with a doctor who lives nearby, one of women, thirty-year-old Margot becomes attracted to him, which threatens her sisters' and mother's stable family life. Margot follows Vincent into the fields, spying on him as he paints. Vincent - just months away from death - knows his madness has control of his mind and does his best to avoid the bloom of the relationship Margot so desperately wants to help her escape her oppressive home life. Vincent succumbs to Margot's unconditionally love and for a brief time it looks as if they will be able to marry and make each other happy. Though not a true story, the drama was inspired by Van Gogh's biography and his paintings.
