Most of the plays of Pedro R. Monge-Rafuls have been produced or had staged-readings. For his comedy A Night To Remember, he received the Very Special Arts Award 1991, Artist of New York category, from the Kennedy Center in Washington and the then Mayor of New York City, Hon. David Dinkins. His plays have been published in Cuban and Latin American anthologies, and translated and produced in languages such as Portuguese and Germany. He inaugurated a new program, The Author and His Work, at the prestigious Cadiz Festival, in Spain, with his Nadie se va del todo. This play, and Madre solo hay una, has been translated to German and included in two anthologies in that language. Some of his plays have been staged Off-Broadway in translation, and his monologue Trash was published by TCG in 2000, (Caridad Svich and Maria Teresa Marrero, Out Of The Fringe. Contemporary Latina/Latino Theatre and Performance.) Mr. Monge-Rafuls lives in New York. He is the director of OLLANTAY Center for the Arts and the editor of OLLANTAY Theater Magazine. His preoccupation when writing a drama or a comedy is to present how individuals suffer because of political and social circumstances and how they are forced to react.
