CHARLES MOREY is the author of nine plays including adaptations of the 19th century classic novels, the COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO, A TALE OF TWO CITIES, the HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME, DRACULA and the THREE MUSKETEERS, a translation/adaptation of Georges Feydeau's TAILLEUR POUR DAMES, titled the LADIES MAN as well as his original plays LAUGHING STOCK, DUMAS' CAMILLE and the YELLOW LEAF. His adaptations and original plays have gone on from their Pioneer Theatre Company premieres to successful productions at professional Theatres across the country including the Denver Center Theatre Company, Alabama Shakespeare Festival, Indiana Repertory Theatre, GEVA Theatre Center Milwaukee Repertory Theatre, the Asolo Theatre Company, the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, Meadow Brook Theatre, Shakespeare and Company, the PCPA Theaterfest, the Peterborough Players, the Connecticut Repertory Theatre, the Elm Shakespeare Company, Arvada Center and Creede Repertory Theatre as well as upcoming productions as numerous amateur and university productions. LAUGHING STOCK was nominated for the American Theatre Critic's Association New Play Award and won the "Best New Play" citation from the New Hampshire Theatre Association and the "Readers Choice" Award for Best Play from the Sarasota Herald Tribune. "Dumas' Camille" received the "Slammy" award for Best New Play in Utah. LAUGHING STOCK and the LADIES MAN are published by Dramatists Play Service and the THREE MUSKETEERS and the COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO are published by Playscripts. "Dracula" will be produced by LA Theatreworks in May 2010 in an adaptation for radio and CD release. He has been Artistic Director of the Pioneer Theatre Company since 1984 where he has directed more than eighty productions including, in recent years, the world premiere of Bess Wohl's TOUCH(ED) and the first regional Theatre productions of LES MISeRABLES, the PRODUCERS and the VERTICAL HOUR in addition to CHICAGO, METAMORPHOSES, JULIUS CAESAR, HUMBLE BOY, JAMES JOYCE's the DEAD, CYRANO DE BERGERAC and the REAL THING among many others. From 1977 to 1988 he served as Artistic Director of New Hampshire's Peterborough Players where he directed the world premieres of such plays as Percy Granger's EMINENT DOMAIN and VIVIEN and poet laureate of the United States Donald Hall's RAGGED MOUNTAIN ELEGIES. Over a twenty-five year career with the Players he directed or acted in over seventy productions. New York directing credits include productions for the Ark Theatre Company and the Ensemble Studio Theatre. Regionally he has directed for the Alabama Shakespeare Festival, Indiana Repertory Theatre, GEVA Theatre Center, Asolo Theatre Company, Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, the MeadowBrook Theatre, the American Stage Festival, PCPA Theatrefest and the Utah Shakespearean Festival. He began his career as an actor working with many New York and regional Theatres such as the New York Shakespeare Festival Public Theatre, Playwrights Horizons, Ensemble Studio Theatre, the New Dramatists, Ark Theatre Company, the Shakespeare Theatre at the Folger, Syracuse Stage, the Peterborough Players, Theatre by the Sea and many others. He has served as both a panelist and on-site evaluator for the National Endowment for the Arts and on the Board of Trustees of the National Theatre Conference. He received a BA from Dartmouth College and a Master of Fine Arts from Columbia University. He is a Fellow of the MacDowell Colony.

Dumas' Camille

Synopsis:
In 1895 Paris, Alexandre Dumas interrupts a rehearsal of Verdi's "La Traviata." Once recognized, he is allowed to remain and as the rehearsal continues, Dumas remembers the actual events of a half century previous that inspired his famous novel "La Dame aux Camelias," his play of the same title, and Verdi's opera. Dumas is confronted with the conflict between the reality of actual events and the varying levels of fiction and artifice created out of that reality. A play with music, requiring two singers capable of singing Alfredo and Violetta in "La Traviata" and six actors.

Figaro

Synopsis:

Ladies Man, The

Synopsis:
In Belle epoque Paris, the recently married Dr. Hercule Molineaux tells "one, tiny, little, hardly noticeable lie" to cover an innocent but embarrassing indiscretion. From that single untruth tumbles a cascade of increasingly convoluted deceptions, misunderstandings and mistaken identities. Compounding Molineaux's troubles are a suspicious wife, a gorgon of a mother-in-law, an outrageously aggressive female patient, her violently jealous Prussian husband, a well-intentioned friend with a serious lisp, a valet with attitude, a maid with a secret and more slamming doors than realistic architecture should ever accommodate, all adding up to a hilariously zany and infectiously charming farce.

Laughing Stock

Synopsis:
