(drawing by Eamonn Robbins). Stephen Morris was born 14 July 1935 in Smethwick, near Birmingham in the West Midlands of England. He attended Moseley Art School, Fircroft College, Marieborgs Folkhighschool, in Sweden and the Universities of Cardiff and Leicester. He has published ten books of poetry, stories and poems for children and one play. He worked as a research worker for two years in a Mental Hospital and for eighteen years in the faculty of Art and Design at Wolverhampton Polytechnic which later became a University. Since, he has worked in his home in the South of France as a full time writer. He has given numerous performances of his poetry in Sweden, Denmark, France, Belgium, Malta, all over the U.K. the U.S.A., India and in the Far East.

Lord of Death, The
Synopsis:
the play takes place on the last night of a condemned man who is to be hung the following morning. the title of the play comes from the poem 'the Ballad of Reading Jail by Oscar Wilde. the play explores the issue of capital punishment which was still in force at the time the play was first produced.
