Organillo
Synopsis:
Stephen Mottram's latest creation fuses animation with music and the visual arts. Puppets, automata and illusion are layered together to produce a haunting, sensual journey into primordial waters - a fertile, amniotic world where things wriggle and reproduce. As with his previous, acclaimed shows, In Suspension and The Seed Carriers, this new work features an original soundscore. Inspired by the sound of the organillo - a small South American mechanical street organ, the music by Argentine composer Sebastian Castagna was specially commissioned in collaboration with the Oxford Festival of Contemporary Music.
Notes:
part of London International Mime Festival 2001. The first Festival took place at The Cockpit Theatre and Arts Centre, London NW8, in January 1977. In that year the event was called The Cockpit Festival of Mime and Visual Theatre. It is now the longest running festival of its kind in the world. With the exceptions of 1983 and 1986, the Festival has taken place each year, featuring, in addition to workshops, films, debates and special events, performances by the following artists and companies. Music by Sebastian Castanga

Seed Carriers
Synopsis:
The classic of adult puppetry. Featuring more than 40 carved wooden puppets, creatures which seem to be human. The Seed Carriers is beautiful, haunting and mesmeric. The Seed Carriers are a race of creatures, human in appearance but treated more like plants. Vulnerable and defenseless, they are harvested for the valuable seeds they carry in their bodies. Savage and mesmerising, beautiful and mysterious. The Seed Carriers is a parable of a frightening social order that preys on the powerless yet holds a vision of hope for the future. The Seed Carriers has toured to over 18 countries and has won three international awards.
