Born in Lebanon in 1968, Wajdi Mouawad fled the war-torn country with his family; they lived in Paris for a few years, then settled in Montreal. After graduating from the National Theatre School in 1991, he embarked on a quadruple career as an actor, writer, director and producer. In 2002, the French government named Wajdi Mouawad a Chevalier de lOrdre National des Arts et des Lettres in recognition of his lifetime artistic contribution. He is the recipient of numerous awards and honours for his writing. Mouawad is a totally original voice in Quebecois theatre, spanning the cultural gaps between his native Lebanon, North America and Quebec.

Making their way through the dunes are Nawal's twin children, Janine and Simon, who want to solve the mystery of their origins. In retracing the bitter history of their mother (enveloped in silence until her death), other characters come into the storywitnesses or key players able to assist in the investigation. Carried aloft by poetic language, the inquiry pursued by Janine and Simon unfolds in a dreamlike atmosphere that cultivates the mystery surrounding a knife thrust into the heart of childhood.

A Lebanese family are preparing for their daughter's wedding. there are problems, however; the bride-to-be is narcoleptic; her elder brother is missing, presumed dead; her Father has had to bring the wedding feast's main course home alive; the bridegroom is conspicuously absent; and a storm has swept in. Adding to the constant threat of sniper fire, a bombing raid has begun. Lebanese playwright Wajdi Mouawad has tried to construct an 'anarchic comedy set in a war zone', presumably to reflect the farcical humour to be found in the horror of conflict.
