Robert Moulthrop was born in the small town of Fall River Mills in northern California, and was raised in San Francisco. He came east to attend Brandeis University (BA, Music) and The Catholic University of America (MA, Theatre), where he wrote his thesis on Harold Pinter ("The Poetic Effect of Theatricality"). Pinter is a strong influence on Moulthrop's plays, especially the dramas and the one-acts. Following graduate school and a stint in the Peace Corps in Nigeria, he discovered that New York City was his emotional, spiritual, and physical home. After raising a family in the suburbs, he moved to NYC and has been there ever since. His "day jobs" have all been focused on communications and marketing. An award-winning playwright and author, in 2005 he was awarded the New York International Fringe Festival Outstanding Playwriting award for Half Life, a New York Times Top 10 Pick of FringeNYC dubbed "the best written and acted play at the Fringe" by New York Magazine. His play T.L.C. garnered the 2006 FringeNYC Outstanding Performance award for its tour de force 80-minute solo turn by its actress, and in the 2008 Fringe, nytheatre.com called his one-man play Lecture, With Cello, "a tantalizing puzzle of a play. . . a remarkable feast for the intellect." His other plays include the Manhattan Children's Theatre commission Jack, The Prince of Ireland, the comedy Who Cares>, performed as part of New York's Urban Stages "First Look" series, a thriller (Planning & Design), two comedies (Ever-Sweet, The Other Daughter), over 10 one-acts, and two series of interconnected monologues: The Food Plays, and Somewhere Else. Also the author of some 40 short stories, he is the recipient of a grant for prose fiction from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. His short stories were awarded a 2011 e-Chapbook publication by WordRunner, and won first prize in the 2010 Literal Latte Fiction Contest. Other short stories have recently appeared in such journals as Berkeley Fiction Review, Confrontation, Eclipse, The MacGuffin, Portland Review, Sou'Wester, and Willard & Maple. Recent performance readings include the Phoenix Fringe Festival and Claire Porter's Word/Play at New York City's Medicine Show.

Jack, The Prince Of Ireland

Jack, The Prince Of Ireland
Is it true what they say about "the Luck of the Irish?" Do leprechauns, rainbows with pots of gold and magical shamrocks really exist? Join Jack, the youngest son of the King of Ireland, on his quest to find out! Jack was never thought to be brave or heroic, certainly not like his two older brothers who were very much favored by their father. But Jack finds his own strengths as he opens his eyes and ears to those around him. When a Wise Old Man offers him a golden shamrock, he quickly learns that its magical powers bring him whatever he NEEDS. It is only when this shamrock is suddenly lost, that he truly discovers what it is to be a hero! Audience members are critical to Jack's journey - he needs them! Who else could throw the bag guys in the dungeon or be on the lookout for a ferocious dragon, or tame a swarm of angry buzzing bees?
