Enough Is Enough

Synopsis:
MUJU hosted an evening of high impact drama at the Tricycle Theatre, in collaboration with human rights theatre company, Ice and Fire. The event included a performance of Homecoming, a newly devised piece by MUJU inspired by events in the Middle East. The event was a sell out at a time of heightened political tension on the international stage. Tackling such a sensitive issue was perhaps the biggest test for MUJU so far, but the results were a deeper understanding between the crew which demonstrated an increased confidence and maturity in the work.

Evicted

Synopsis:
One House in London worth a fortune, one property developer, three bedsits was the shows opening premise. Evicted told the story of three households struggling to find peace and wellbeing, whose worlds are turned upside down when they are forced from their homes. The show tackled a number of hard-hitting issues. Most notably, the idea that when a world becomes so obsessed with money and making profits the rights of individuals, particularly the poor and less enfranchised minorities, can be overlooked.

Extreme Prevention

Synopsis:
After a successful tour in May, MUJU, the Muslim-Jewish collective, return to London with an updated and extended production of their sharply satirical comedy sketch show, Extreme Prevention. The show is set against the backdrop of the last governments preventing extremism agenda that included radio campaigns warning us if you suspect it, report it, to school teachers being trained to identify extremist children. With new additional content reflecting recent developments at home and abroad, Extreme Prevention Goes Global is one education not to be missed.

Harissa

Synopsis:
Upstarts kicked off 2011 with a new director and the opportunity to perform work inspired by untold true stories of Muslim heroes during WW2 and the Holocaust. With the stories as stimulus, the group collaborated and were directed by director, Josh Azouz, supported by Tara Jaffa, to devise a show. A cast with little past acting experience performed a rich 50minute play, alongside beautiful music, at the Tricycle Theatre in May over 3 sell out shows.

Tunnel Vision

Synopsis:
A sketch show set on a tube carriage which cleverly tackled thorny issues such as the judgment of others. As the characters embark and depart from the carriage each scene presents a story with its own unique lesson. Rather than preaching to the audience however, Tunnel Vision encourages the audience to make up their mind and attempt to understand why the characters feel and react in the way they do. The play explores topics such as class, society, economic relations and love, but despite this strong non-religious humanitarian message, the stand-out scene is one in which Muslim-Jewish tensions are hilariously probed in the form of a chat show interview.

Whose Faith is it anyway?

Synopsis:
MUJU are excited for their first major performances outside of London. The MUJU Crew, in partnership with AAUK, will take MUJU sketches to visit Leeds FE college campus to celebrate Interfaith Week. The aim of the event is to take a bit of the MUJU magic outside of London to Muslims, Jews and young people of all and no faith. The performances will include some session time for small groups to feedback on what they have seen and think about why MUJU use art forms to break down barriers.
