Born in Washington, D.C., June 10, 1958, Vivian Nesbitt is a third generation actor with theater credits that include George Street Play House (NJ), The Pittsburgh Public (PA) and Roundabout Theatre (NYC) where her first professional job out of grad school was understudy to Mary Steenburgen's Candida and Ann Dowd's Miss Proserpine. The Bark & The Tree is Vivian's debut work as a playwright and solo performer. The play was honored with two awards at United Solo Festival, Theatre Row, NYC in 2013 for Best Documentary Play and Best Lighting Design. A member of the SAG/AFTRA, she has been a guest on Breaking Bad, Longmire, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Wild Fire, and In Plain Sight. She appears in the upcoming film Things People Do, with Wes Bentley and in the recently released Banshee Chapter with Katia Winter (Sleepy Hollow) directed by Blair Erickson and produced by Sunchaser Entertainment and Before The Door Productions. Vivian received a Master of Fine Arts in Acting in 1992 from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. Much of her early influences as an actor and writer came from her studies at The American Conservatory Theater where she met Anna Deavere Smith in 1987. Vivian had the opportunity to work with her again during Anna's seven day exploration of Acting and Empathy in San Francisco in 2013. In New York, Vivian has studied primarily with Seth Barrish and Lee Brock of the The Barrow Group. Vivian considers the craft of acting and writing for performance "The Art of Seeing in The Dark" and is in her early development as a writer. She is influenced by poets, songwriters, the natural world and the human condition. Her focus is mainly on writing for personal performance. In addition to The Bark & The Tree she has written, produced and stars in a short screen play called Leverage, due out in the spring of 2014. Vivian owns Sol Acting Academy where she teaches. Sol Acting Academy serves over 400 students a year, ranging in age from 3 - 93. She is also co-executive director of the nationally syndicated public radio program Art of the Song Creativity Radio with her husband John Dillon. She lives in the mountains of New Mexico in Albuquerque.
