Playwright Lee Nowell began her career at Hedgerow Theatre (PA), the country's oldest resident repertory theatre company, where she trained to be a director with Obie award winner, Lou Lippa. She focused on new play development and workshopped world premiere productions. After two seasons at Hedgerow, she was nominated for the New York Drama League's Directors Lab. Her plays have been workshopped and produced by Theatre in the Square (Urban Fairytale), Metropolitan Theatre Alliance (Preacher from the Black Lagoon), Actor's Express (Albatross, Paper House), and Horizon Theatre (Blue Angels Weekend). She is the recipient of the Inverness Playwriting Award, a Turner New Voices in the Works Grant (Paper House), and has been nominated for a Jennie Award (Urban Fairytale), a Suzi Bass Award (Albatross), and an NEA Distinguished New Play Development Award (Paper House). Albatross was nominated for "Best Play of the Year" by Atlanta Theatre Fans. I Blame Andy Warhol, Magical Cloak of Invisibility, A Message to Our Sponsors, and Health Tip of the Day were featured in the 2012 and 2013 Atlanta One-Minute Play Festivals. Ms. Nowell's full-length play, How to Survive Being Human, was a semi-finalist for the Heiress and Trustus National Playwriting Competitions. Lee was also commissioned, with author Phillip DePoy, to adapt a play from the novel, Pot Liquor. Urban Fairytale and Preacher from the Black Lagoon were also collaborations with Phillip DePoy.

Albatross
Synopsis:
A married couple, Alice and Jim, return home after the funeral of an acquaintance. As they settle in for a quiet Tuesday night dinner, startling confessions threaten to interrupt their humdrum suburban routine. They are thrust into a dangerous game of cat and mouse that tests each one's trust for the other -- and reveals that neither is quite what they seem. Each new revelation launches them both deeper into a mystery that keeps twisting and turning until the very end. This gripping new play by Atlanta playwright Lee Nowell dares to ask if you can ever really outrun your past -- or can you bury it when it finally catches up to you?
