Bedrooms, Dens And Other Forms Of Magic
Synopsis:
theatre503 present a series of short plays which riff on the theme of "Coalition" - both in that they are all products of collaborations between playwrights and artists of other disciplines, and in that they all address in one way or another the new age of coalition government in which we find ourselves. You might say that a theatrical exploration of the current political situation could have come a little sooner; but coinciding as it does with the student riots and the general reaction to the October cuts, this project feels incredibly vital. there are ten pieces of work, split into a Blue Group and a Yellow Group (for Tories and Lib Dems, of course), which perform on alternate nights.

Breeders
Synopsis:
The path to parenthood isn't always straight. Andrea and her wife Caroline have it all: great jobs, a loving relationship and a new home. There's just one thing missing: a baby. Amidst the drink-sodden traditions of a family Christmas, they have an idea: if nature can't give them a child that shares both their genes, perhaps Andrea's under-achieving brother Jimmy can? When he and his girlfriend Sharon agree, the four are forced closer than any family expects to be. Will this be the perfect solution? Or a recipe for disaster? This hilarious new comedy offers a fresh take on family, tradition and procreation, questioning not only why we have children, but how.

Honey
Following a long early dinner break, the evening took time to get going. Honey features a series of diplomatic negotiations between an Afghan Defence Minister, Masood Khalili and CIA agent Schroen, played by Vincent Ebrahim and Michael Cochrane. This is used as a means to show that the USA had provided weapons that ended up on both sides leading to the War on Terror. It also strongly implies that with greater will and more trust for their allies, the warning given by the World Trade Center attack in 1996 should have been enough to prevent the devastation there five years later. .

Pleasure Principle, The
Synopsis:
Well I'd like to beat you up, George, believe me. I'd like to smash your head in. But we don't all act on impulse, now do we? When it comes to it, we check ourselves. It's called self-control, George, you should try it some time. Four grown-ups who should know better stumble into a minefield of flirtation, lust and friendship, bored by their best intentions and bewildered by their own desires. Ben Ockrent's debut play is a razor-sharp satire on sex and settling down, with a bittersweet edge.
