Jumping Puddles
Synopsis:
Two sisters at war suddenly find their world turned upside down. As the autumn nights draw in and the rain falls Grace and Anna find themselves trying to stay afloat as they jump from one puddle of emotion to another. Now the puddle is in danger of becoming a river and Anna fears Grace will be taken by the tide. Jumping Puddles is a funny and moving story about two sisters fast-tracked to adulthood as they discover it's hard being a girl but harder still when faced with the harsh reality and fragility of life.
Notes:
Jumping Puddles is directly informed by 162 young women from the North East and Liverpool. Since September 2013 Open Clasp have been working with groups of marginalised young women to inform a play about their lives, touring February and March 2015. The play is being developed in collaboration with the fantastic Frantic Assembly who have been working with us and the young women throughout the project.

Space Between Us
Synopsis:
the North East of England is in the grip of a storm on a biblical scale. Three months of rain fall in one day, roads are closed, rivers are bursting their banks and the region is submerged under water. Blown from four corners of the earth, four women seek sanctuary, security and refuge. However, all is not as it should be and the women find themselves in a battle, not only with the rising tide and with each other, but with humanity itself. the Space Between Us is a fast paced Dramatic narrative that invites audiences into a world that is full of conflict, love and hope. This play has been directly informed by young women who identify as Slovak/ Roma and Czech/ Roma (from the West End of Newcastle), women who find themselves destitute after being refused asylum and face the daily threat of deportation, plus Travellers from Teesside and Arabic women living in the West and East End of Newcastle with a particular focus on women from Syria. Open Clasp aim to highlight issues and challenges faced by women in the North East. We want to create debate for social change and this show will help to do just that. the issues covered include; community cohesion and integration with new arrivals, homophobia and the asylum process, issues affecting the Travelling community in relation to access to education and domestic violence and the Asylum process, with particular focus on destitution and deportation.
