Felipe Ossa is a Brooklyn-based playwright who has developed work with Times Square Playwrights and Brooklyn Playwrights Collective. His play Monetizing Emma won awards for Best Script and Best Overall Production for its premiere in the 2009 Planet Connections Theatre Festivity in New York, and in 2010 it was mounted by Indiana-based New World Arts, which took it to Chicago as well. The original cast of Emma reprised their roles in 2010 at the New York International Fringe Festival, where it garnered raves from a number of media outlets. In 2010, his play Cake premiered at 45 Bleecker as part of the Planet Connections Theatre Festivity. His play Fulana, a 2009 recipient of a DCA re-grant through the Brooklyn Arts Council, is being presented in November 2010 as part of the Page-to-Stage series at Dixon Place. Other works include Emerging Markets, which has been presented as a developmental reading at the American Indian Community House, and Liberal White Female, a one-act that has been mounted at various venues around New York, including the Bowery Poetry Club and Theater for the New City. His play Why Does It Sting When I Pee? premiered at Milagros Theater on the Lower East Side in 2006. In 2008, Felipe co-directed and designed Shattering Borders, a workshop for immigrant Latino performers that was funded by the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council. Felipe is a reporter for Sourcemedia, and has published stories in Salon.com, Risk Espana, and Dow Jones Newswires, among other media.
