3 Sisters Vanishing

Synopsis:
Inspired by Chekhov's 3 Sisters, 3 Sisters Vanishing creates a new set of rules from the subtext of this monumental production. The cast is doubled to 6 sisters, giving each of the 3 original "prisoners of country life" their own set of doppelgangers. Blocking doorways like correctional officers, these 3 "Other" Sisters serve to insure that the dream of returning to the city remains an elusive dream. Citing Anton Chekhov as a major influence in her career, the experimental theater pieces of Turkish director Handan Ozbilgin are highly allegorical, funny, and characterized by a stunning visual language.

Based on Jean Genet's The Maids, MAIDS 4:39N is an innovative theater production conceived and directed by Handan Ozbilgin. During this year-long project, the audience will experience the workshop process - in four "easy" installments. Comprised of both LaGuardia Community College students and professional actors, MAIDS 4:39N is a pulsating theater piece that gives the audience a window into the "process."
