BESSIE: the Life and Music of Bessie Smith
Synopsis:
Orphaned and penniless at seven, legendary blues singer Bessie Smith ultimately rose to become a household name and the highest paid Black entertainer in America - with a private railway car, boxes of diamonds, and records that routinely sold over half a million copies each. But behind all her success was a hard-drinking, street-fighting private life, an unhappy marriage to a violent, philandering husband, and a sudden fall from grace that left her having to battle her way to the top not once, but twice.
Notes:
Incorporates many of the classic popular And blues songs that made her famous.
