Immaterial Matters

Synopsis:
Apprentice Crane Wordsworth is sent to photograph Carrie a dying painter. He arrives too late but is persuaded to take a photograph of her anyway and the family will pretend she is asleep. Carrie's ghost takes a shine to Crane and leaves with him. Crane's boss is appalled by the photograph but the family love it. The photograph is prominently displayed at the funeral. Next Of Kin

Synopsis:
Depressed by the war in Iraq, Vietnam vet Jonathan Carmichael shoots himself. He survives and is looked after by his daughter Angie. Angie worries that he may die and that will mean the end of his army pension and she will not be able to pay the mortgage. Her two brothers arrive to help. Michael a Marine Causality Assistance Officer. He is the one that goes to meet families to inform them when their is a causality in Iraq. The job is bringing him down but he feels he should carry on for his comrade Marines. Rich has had two tours of duty in Iraq and is now a recruitment officer. With his doubts about the war and the increasing unpopularity of the war - he too is feeling the strains of his job. He turns to drink and considers applying to go back to Iraq

Zachary a professor of literature is an expert on Malcolm Lowry. He is convinced that on the Day of the Dead he will die - the same as one of Lowry's characters.
