Cinderella: A Fairytale

Cinderella: A Fairytale
A brand new version of one of the oldest, best loved fairytales of all time. When a rich man s wife dies, his daughter Ella mourns her beloved mother with a grief as deep as the snow on her grave. Before the spring sun has time to melt it, her father takes a second wife and their peaceful life is taken over by a host of new and unpleasant relations. Her only friends are the woodland birds who roost in the tree that grows over the grave, but they are no ordinary birds. . . With their quirky visual style, crystal-clear storytelling, original live music and pitch-perfect ensemble acting, director Sally Cookson and team bring this classic tale of fortunes reversed startlingly and imaginatively to life.

Life After

Synopsis:
Once upon a time a small voice cried out. What happens at the end of the story? The Bristol Old Vic Young Company dive into a sea of imagination and take you on an epic journey in this ambitious devised production. Through whispering forests, to a love story in a jealous lake we follow a young boy who won't let his mother go and battles death into a nutshell. Bursting at the seams with invention and a cast of over a hundred, the company serenade, animate and ask what lies beyond the here and now. The Life After explores loss and change, be it as monumental as death, or seemingly incidental, like the opening of the first daffodils in spring. Each is explored with curiosity, fearlessness and, just occasionally, outright silliness. We witness moments of pure joy, devastation and subtle events that transform our world. A celebration of what it means to be alive.

Minotaur

Synopsis:
Every year, King Aegeus of Athens must send fourteen children to their deaths at the hands of the Minotaur: a monster, half-bull, half-man who roams the twisted labyrinth below the palace of King Minos of Crete. Only the monster's half-sister, Ariadne, knows the secret of how to tame it, but she is trapped in a maze of her own, unable to free herself from her cruel father. Aegeus waits for a son he no longer believes exists, the son who can kill the Minotaur, release Athens from its debt, and free Ariadne. Will he arrive? And if he does, will he do the right thing? Given a surprising twist, Minotaur is an exhilarating re-telling of the Greek legend that inspires it, full of bold story-telling, live music and song.

Only Us

Synopsis:
A playful and honest celebration of us. All of us. Throughout the Spring. Adam Peck's one-man show Only toured around Bristol's schools, caf?s, community groups, libraries and site-specific locations telling the story of being an only child and the experiences of feeling lonely. Only Us is a series of autobiographical stories about growing up, living in Bristol and feeling like you're part of something bigger. Whilst on tour Adam collected stories from members of the public and together with the people involved, shaped these stories into a collection of short monologues. From 3 June these stories will be performed by their owners in the Studio in an extended show Only Us. Told in two halves, Only Us combines Adam's own life story with the stories of the people he met on his travels; a melting pot of Bristolians, people you might recognise, people you might not, but people all united by the same issues - friendship, family and the search for fulfilment. Adam visited places as varied as Headway brain injury unit at Frenchay Hospital, Henleaze Library, Ashfield Young Offenders Institute and the Lansdown Pub in Clifton. The stories have been inspirational, moving and joyous in equal measure
