Arthur John Perry was born on May 7th 1906 in Woodruff, County Tipperary. He was educated at Cheltenham College. He stage debut was as Jack Chesney in "Charlie's Aunt". In 1926 when he was in "the Constant Nymph" he met John Gielgud and they became lovers - they shared a flat at Seven Dials in London In 1938, Gielgud directed his play, "Spring Meeting" During the Second World War John was in the RAF he ended up being the ADC to the Governor of Gibraltar. After the War he joined Binkie Beaumont's company H M Tennent Ltd eventually becoming a director and taking over in 1974 when Binkie Beaumont died. John Perry produced the works of many young playwrights - Christopher Fry, Peter Ustinov, Tennessee Williams and Arthur Miller. He died on February 16th 1995 in Cambridge.

Man About the House
Synopsis:
When Ludovic dies at his Italian estate his two surviving relatives arrive to claim their inheritance. the estate had previously belonged to Salvatore's family. Salvatore had worked for Ludovic and had expected to inherit the estate but when this is proved not to be the case he turns his attentions to the two women to try and wheedle the estate somehow from them.

Adapted form the novel by Francis Brett Young. This play had problems with the Lord Chamberlain's Office - the official play censors. Originally Salvatore was A kept man. He went off to America with An older American man - changed to woman in the play As performed - And returned when s/he died. He then moved in with Ludovic.In the play As performed, to run the estate And look After Ludovic As he became more And more frail. Originally he was obviously more to Ludovic than An employee. Ludovic's All male "parties" were Also changed to mixed cocktail parties.
