Born in Sandymount, Dublin on 21 May 1920, raised in Upper Pembroke St. and educated at the CBS, Synge St., and Municipal School of Music, Camden St., Dublin, Became clerk in Dublin Gas Co., 1937; joined trade union and was appointed branch secretary secretary working under Jim LarkinAmongst his contributions to The Bell was Working Class', a story provide nucleus of Strumpet City. Visited Soviet Union in 1955, attacked by Catholic Standard, and was forced to resign from the union. Aug. 1955. His radio plays include Dublin Fusilier ( March 1952), Mercy (June 1953); Homecoming (April 1954); Farewell Harper (1956) and Big Jim (1955) which was expanded as The Risen People (Abbey Sept. 1958). Became Executive Producer in RTe. Plunkett issued his epic novel about Dublin, Strumpet City, in 1969. Farewell Companions, based on his own life, was published in 1977.
