Bloody Romantic, The
Bloody Romantic, The
Synopsis:
Vincent De La Croix is a twenty-something gay chef whose last venture was a monumental failure. He lives with his life partner Frank O'Reilly, a young lawyer whose career is about to take off. Vince spends his days giving cooking lessons to Gloria, who happens to be Frank's ex-wife. But very little cooking gets accomplished-at least of food. Vince and Gloria have developed a kinkily abusive sexual relationship, ranging from verbal slings to outright crotch stomping. Things heat up further as Frank gets a little too close to his new boss, the unscrupulous maverick attorney Benjamin Biltwell. When Vince discovers the wrong kind of briefs in Frank's briefcase, he begins to question whether their faithless but oddly tender relationship will be able to continue. As both affairs threaten to boil over, and a mysterious fop in safari gear lurks in the wings, the characters must confront themselves and each other about what ties actually bind in today's licentious culture. Dubbed by the Chicago Reader "refreshingly transgressive" and "perversely sophisticated romantic farce," The Bloody Romantic tackles the difficulty of developing real romantic bonds amidst the confusions of today's permissive, porn-saturated metrosexual culture.
