Ashley Dutton, known under the stage name Alex Pryce, was born in Leicester in 1983. He studied Performing Arts at DeMontfort University and upon graduating set about pursuing a career in the Arts. He set up Chimaera in 2003 with two students from his BTEC National course (Sam Hough and Claire Cockshaw), both of which have since left the company to concentrate on non-Arts related careers. Deciding to carry on alone he began working on numerous projects, mainly devised and mainly theatrical. His first devised piece, Three Coins, was shown as part of Speakeasy Theatre Company's Emergency Showcase at the Y Theatre Leicester (where Chimaera still continues to put on work). Three Coins was the story of a young man coming to terms with the painful loss of his Grandmother, and was a piece that would later be adapted into a short film. His directing debut for a non devised piece was Steven Berkoff's 'In the Penal Colony'. A disturbing story of torture and redemption in a foreign penal colony. For this he won two awards including Best Director. After many years of involvment in community Theatre, Chimaera was decided by Pryce to be the way forward and he continued devising pieces with the company. Aside from devising and directing Pryce also acts and could recently be seen in the short film 'Dead Air' at the Phoenix Arts centre Leicester. In 2006 he relocated to Edinburgh, Scotland, and has been working constantly since.
