Farewell to Arms, A

Synopsis:
Based on the author's real-life experience of war torn Italy in 1918, A Farewell to Arms follows the story of Frederic Henry, an American ambulance driver in the Italian army and his relationship with British nurse Catherine Barkley. In the turmoil of the closing months of The Great War Frederic and Catherine discover the redemptive power of love and experience the loss of innocence as they cement their relationship in a time of devastating conflict. Acclaimed theatre makers imitating the dog bring their unique theatrical vision to Ernest Hemingway's seminal First World War novel A Farewell to Arms. In a year that marks the 100-year anniversary of the start of World War One, this production seizes the opportunity to tell one of the great love stories of the twentieth century. A premiere of the first UK adaptation, the production fuses video projection, beautiful stage design and original music to create an extraordinary version of Hemingway's powerful meditation on love and the brutality of modern warfare.

Train, The

Synopsis:
Imagine a world that exists solely as a train. Imagine a woman who is given a job that she knows will put her life in jeopardy, one that takes her on a journey into her own heart of darkness. Find yourself moving through carriages witnessing the strange encounters with people who would seem to have much more information about what is happening than you. Imagine entering a terrible nightmare in which those who you assume are dead tell you what your future might bring you. Imagine you are at a door, looking at the moving tracks and you jump. Again and again. Imagine this and you are in The Train. Having performed for over a month in Italy and garnering outstanding reviews, The Train makes its English-speaking debut in Lancaster in January 2016. A unique combination of immersive theatre and philosophical fairground ride, an audience of 12 listen through headphones and sit in a moving auditorium which pans and tracks as it follows our heroine's journey through a multimedia landscape that is both beautiful and disturbing. Part detective thriller and part philosophical meditation on loss and human isolation, The Train takes you on a journey you will never forget.

Zero Hour, The

Synopsis:
Berlin during the final moments of the Second World War, three couples live through three very different versions of the same events. Across different histories lives connect, or fail to connect, in ways which echo and resonate and gradually build a picture of human stoicism in the face of the wave of history. Framed as a film that is being directed by a Chinese film director and crew, the Zero Hour fuses live action with pre-recorded film, animation, and computer generated imagery to create a world where human relations are located to be at the heart of historical events. Disturbing and romantic in turn the Zero Hour is shot through with the obsessions (sex, babies, death, WW2 and time travel) that are the hallmarks of ITD's narrative inventions to date.
