Roberto Ramos-Perea was born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico in 1959. He is a playwright, actor, director, journalist, researcher and Theatre critic. He is one of the most active spokesmen for his generation of playwrights, and has worked as a reporter for El Reportero and El Mundo while contributing weekly columns for Puerto Rico Ilustrado. Currently, he is the Executive Director of the National Archives for the Puertorican Theater and Cinema of the Ateneo Puertorriqueno and the Director of the Conservatorio de Arte Dramatico. He has premiered more than 80 plays in Puerto Rico, the U.S.A., Japan, Spain, Brasil, Mexico, Cuba, Venezuela, Argentina, Mexico, Chile, and the Dominican Republic. Several of his plays have been translated to japanese, English, check and portuguese. Roberto Ramos-Perea's work has been awarded numerous prizes including the Premio de Teatro Rene Marques del Ateneo Puertorriqueno in 1983 for Modulo 104 and in 1984 for Cueva de Ladrones. In addition he received the Premio Nacional de Teatro given by the PEN Club in 1987, and the Premio Nacional de Periodismo (premio Bolivar Pagan) (National Award for Journalism) in 1987 and 1992. In December of 1992 it was announced that Ramos-Perea was named winner of the highly esteemed Premio Tirso de Molina by the Instituto de Cooperacion IberoAmericana de Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores in Madrid, Spain for his play Mienteme mas (Lie to Me Some More). the play was published by the Instituto and was premiered in Cadiz. Ramos-Perea's Morir de Noche (To Die By Night) was also was among the final group of six plays which were considered for the award. the author's publications and/or productions include the following works: Revolucion en el Infierno (1982); Modulo 104 Revolucion en el Purgatorio (1983); Cueva de Ladrones-Revolucion en el Paraiso (1984); El sueno vicioso (1979); Ese punto de vista (1981); La Mueca de Pandora (1981); Los 200 No (1983); Crimen y Castigo (1984); Camandula (1985); Malasangre la nueva emigracion (1987); Golpe de Rejas (1987); Censurado (1987); Obsesion (1988); A puro bolero (1989); Yalta (1989); Llanto de Luna (1989); Las amantes pasan el ano nuevo solas (1990); Mistiblu (1991); Mienteme mas (1991); Melodia Salvaje (1992); Motel (1992); Morir de Noche (1992); Tuya Siempre, Julita (1992), Callando Amores (1994), El Narcicista (1995), Besos de Fuego (1996), Vida de un poeta romantico (1996), Quimera (1998), Miles: la otra historia del 98 (1998) Avatar (1999), Las chicas del Beauty (2000), Don Juan Tenorio: Drama latinoAmericano (2003), Fausto Rave (2002), Inferno (2005), Despues de la Muerte (2004), La vida en Marte (2007), and many adaptations and short plays. In addition to the works mentioned above, Ramos-Perea has written screenplays that have been produced like Callando Amores (1996), Revolucion en el Inferno (2003) an Despues de la Muerte (2005), books of short stories, Sangre de nino (1976) and El Mensaje del extrano (1986), and a book of essays, Perspectiva de la Nueva Dramaturgia Puertorriqueno (1989) and Teatro Puertorriqueno contemporaneo (1983-2003). He also has written the books Historia General del Teatro en Puerto Rico, and Diccionario de la literature dranmatica Puetorriquena del Siglo XIX.
