James Rayfield has been a Theatre educator for over thirty years. He received his BA in English from Florida State University and his MFA in directing from the University of Texas at Austin. In addition he has studied acting with Viola Spolin in Los Angeles. He has published seven plays for teens including his latest, "Ten Actors In Search of a Cell Phone" which have been produced all over the United States. . In 1992 he was selected as Theatre Educator of the Year by the Florida Association of Theatre Educators, in 1994 he was voted Best Local Playwright by the newspaper Creative Loafing and he was selected as Florida Luminary Playwright by Tampa's StageWorks. In addition he has had short pieces produced off-Broadway at the Expanded Arts Theatre and the Manhattan Class Company. Presently, he teaches acting classes at the Patel Conservatory in TampA.

Attack of the Giant Ex's

Synopsis:
Danny's journey into the world of high school romance begins with Laurie, a girl who shares his enthusiasm for videos and hanging out at the shopping center. But when a hot number named Brooke blows in from Hollywood, things start to fall apart as Danny shifts from hometown girl to movie star gonnabe. the girls plunge into a fight over Danny that has the intensity of a professional wrestling match. As a matter of fact, that's how it's presented in this play of love, and love and hate, and then love, and then hate again. Enemies become friends and Danny almost walks away from the all-is-fair-in-love war without a scar. . .almost.

Boyfriend Project, The

Synopsis:
Five teenage girls form a support group, Good Girls with Bad Boyfriends. Tracy doesn't like the way Paul dresses, Katie wants Tony to be a steady boyfriend, Natalie is tired of Ralph's acting like a wild animal, Donna is fed up with jokes from Jerry at her expense, and Barbara wants to keep Frankie from flirting with every girl around. the girls go to some real extremes to change behaviors. But, hey, these guys do not change - or embarrass - easily!

Five Pound Sack, The

Synopsis:
Cindy's project for Family Living class is to treat a sack of flour as if it were her baby. the father Chuck Metal-Is-My-Life Shickman, who would rather die than take a sack of flour in a diaper to his Advanced Remedial English class. Bribes, threats, brownies, Twinkies, and a twisted kidnapping plot are employed. Everyone learns something about parenting and each other.

Help Wanted

Synopsis:
O.K. teens, listen up. If you want to drive a car, go to college/grad night/prom, get a class ring or new clothes, you're going to have to find a JOB! All the fun, frustrations and foibles of part-time jobs are explored in these scenes and monologues, from making a hamburger, to figuring out what garbled language is being spoken in the drive-thru, to presenting a phone sales pitch before the person hangs up with a thud! there are also some moments of comic fantasy as teens try to picture their dream job, as surfer and comic book reader. And of course, not to be forgotten, tribute is paid to the most important part of the job, pay day!

I Hate Mothers

Synopsis:
the comedy for every high school girl who has had to play the mother role when she really wantedto play the lead. A performance of Petunias - a blatanly sentimental high school play - is in progress, but things go very wrong when the actress playing the mother (she always plays the mother) determines she wants things to work out her way for a change. She takes control of the lead and the other actors are forced to improvise to save the play. She changes lines, the plot, an even kills off her own character so she can make romantic moves on her daughter's boyfriend!

Senior Year Survivor

Synopsis:
Six students with various backgrounds and personalities, have been selected for Senior Year Survivor. Who will be left standing after the slew of competitions and challenges? From homecoming, SAT's, college applications and class rings, to announcements, prom and yearbook, these senior students are braving the whole gauntlet leading up to graduation! the audience gets to participate as judges, and alternate endings are included. the contestants who get voted off the show have to go to study hall. Regardless of who's the winner, you will never look at reality TV or high school in quite the same way again.

Synopsis:
Danny Brillo is a high school detective who, unbeknownst to the school administration, operates out of a janitor's closet. When a term paper goes missing, it means the valedictorian could lose her rank -- and it's up to Danny to get to the bottom of things. His investigation exposes the high school's hidden underbelly, including the secretive campus candy racket, the vicious contenders for the valedictorian spot, and the tabloid-like school paper. It's a high school underground world that few know exists. . .because maybe it doesn't.
