Kate Rice studied acting at VCA, playwriting at NIDA and writing for short film at AFTRS. She has been commissioned by Deckchair Theatre Company, Agelink Theatre Company, Black Swan's HotBed program, Barking Gecko Theatre Company, Darwin Theatre Company, Darwin High School and Corrugated Iron Youth Arts. Her play the Dead Zone' won an AWGIE in the Theatre For Young Audiences category in 2006. the Mozart Faction' won the Blue Room People's Choice award in 2007 and Apocalypse Perth' was shortlisted for the Blue Room Best Production award in 2008. Her half-house television comedy In the Swim' was produced by SBS Independent in 2001 and she wrote for the children's television series Trapped' and Trapped 11 Castaway' (2008-09). Kate was awarded the position of Writer-In-Residence at Deckchair Theatre Company in 2010. She is currently Artist-In-Residence writing a commissioned play for Performance Studies students at Curtin University.

Antigone
Synopsis:
Newly-sworn-in President Constantine declares the new law: it is an offence to bury the dead body of insurgent terrorist and failed coup-leader Jason Oldfoot, who assassinated his brother, the former president, Alexander Oldfoot. But in other news, the beautiful Antigone Oldfoot is engaged to marry Constantine's son, Daemon. Antigone tries to bury her fallen brother, Jason. She is caught, but she refuses to compromise. the President has no alternative but to uphold the law and sentence her to death by immurement. A senior party politician eventually succeeds in changing the President's mind, but by then it is too late

Apocalypse Perth
Synopsis:
A member of a website for the theatre community asks for a review of a recent amateur musical production. Other members of the website respond that the show was terrible. the stage is set for a massive flame war. A writer sends out an email to all the people involved in the production and the discussion about it, inviting them to contribute to a verbatim theatre piece which will present the actual online forum onstage, interspersed with interviews with those who contributed and those who were affected by it. Apocalypse Perth is the result.

Caravan
Synopsis:
Ivan promised Sophie a disappearing act, but they haven't rehearsed once. Heavily-accented Eastern European Ivan implores Sophie to wait for the right time. But Sophie's successful middle-class mother, who is dying of cancer, arrives to take Sophie back to Melbourne. Sophie sticks to her dream of the disappearing act, until her mother shatters the illusion. Ivan is really Warren, a Brisbane boy. Sophie gives up, and agrees to go. But at that moment, the Masked Marvel appears for the magic show. Sophie disappears, and so does her mother, overcome by a deadly coughing fit. the two of them meet again on the other side, where anything is possible.

Dead Zone, The
Synopsis:
Wet season, Saturday night, a party, a car crash. Abby's boyfriend Jasper and best friend Belinda are killed. Abby, the driver, wakes up in a hospital bed to her only visitor - the stranger Orpheus, who pulled her from the wreckage. Orpheus comforts her with New Age philosophy, a stolen joint and bad singing. As Abby tries to come to terms with the loss and the guilt, Jasper and Belinda are coming to terms with the Underworld. Each is met by a Spiritual Guide who takes them through a process of Judgement. Meanwhile, hot-shot lawyer Di arrives at Abby's bedside to prepare her for trial, as Abby has been charged with dangerous driving causing death. Abby, Belinda and Jasper each face their trials alone, and account for what really happened on the night of the accident.

When Leonie starts hassling for Delta Goodrem's private phone number, she is banned from the fan website. She is livid. Delta is her friend. May 1937, Friedrichshafen, Germany. the elite passengers of the luxury Zeppelin Hindenburg begin their two-day trip across the Atlantic. As they settle in, travelling socialite and poetess Margaret Mather discovers that God is a female dog, she's in the freight hold, and she says that the whole ship is going to burn. One in three of those on board will be killed. A plot to blow up the ship is uncovered, the bomb is found and defused, but destiny won't be thwarted. Mortality is inevitable: the passengers each have 34 seconds to look death in the eye and take their chances. Rise And Fall Of the Bargainmart King, The
Synopsis:
It's Kelly's first day on the job at the Bargainmart Supermarket, and she soon finds factionalism, aggression and undercurrents of violence lurking in the aisles. She joins forces with dissatisfied checkout chick Cornelia in an effort to improve working life for the staff. But Cornelia has blackmail in mind, and locks Management in the cool room. there's a party for all - until the anti-shoplifting system is activated, and the entire staff and all the customers find they are locked in too. A new leader emerges with an outrageous plan to build a new society. Kelly pleads for reason, but the new king's regime is even harsher than Management's. Everyone must take sides, and Kelly finds that she must either lead the dissenters and fight - or die.

While doing time in the dreaded Detention Room Three, five schoolgirls unwittingly unlock a portal to the world of Macbeth. the Witches prophesy great things for the girls, promising them their dearest wishes. When the prophecies come true, the girls are ecstatic - except for Eloise, who suspects that dabbling in the supernatural may have unfortunate consequences. She's right - the prophecies backfire, the local Paranormal Investigation Society descends on the school, and one of the girls, Sara, becomes a Witch herself to escape the real world. Can Eloise and her friends - helped by their humourless teacher, the sleazy principal and a love-struck poet - rescue Sara and close the portal once and for all?
