Karina Richardson was born in Houston to a Puerto Rican mother and an Oklahoman father. She lived in Texas until she was eighteen, when she left to pursue acting at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. After graduating with a BFA in Theatre, she joined Proximity, a theatre company created by two fellow graduates that took her to Santa Barbara every summer. She is now the co-artistic director and has had three full length plays produced by Proximity to date. She took her first official writing class last year at ESPA with Winter Miller. She has continued taking classes with Winter and is extremely grateful to her and Tessa LaNeve for their support and for the opportunities ESPA has given her since she joined their community.

Dylan's Encounter
Synopsis:
In 1797, Coleridge awoke from a restless opium dream and began to write Kubla Khan. A few lines into the poem, he was interrupted by a "person from Porlock". Some people think this was an actual person; others believe it was a fiction created by Coleridge to explain his inability to finish the poem; still others feel it may have been an opium inspired hallucination. I've always found it an interesting fable presenting the fragility of creative momentum. The Challenge to writers: - Write a 5-8 minute scene that springboards from this tale - an interruption of creativity and a right turn into a wildly different direction
