Asylum

Synopsis:
ASYLUM is an aerial theatre piece set in the 1960s when mass closings of psychiatric hospitals across the U.S. were underway. The piece combines devised theatre and aerial/circus choreography to examine the inhabitants of a state mental institution: the patients deemed unfit for society and the over-extended employees trying to salvage a crumbling system. Created in collaboration with the cast and designers, the show uses projected photographs, aerial acrobatics, live music, and voiceover to explore the heightened physical and emotional stakes of the story.
