Angel Levine
Synopsis:
about a woeful Jewish tailor, here named Finkel. Finkel's ultimate test of faith arrives in the form of a black Jewish angel, Alexander Levine, who materializes at his kitchen table one day in 1948 when life seems at its nadir. Not only has Finkel lost his business, but also his son has died in the war, his daughter has run off and his beloved wife, Fanny, lies dying. Little wonder that when Finkel looks to heaven, he says, "Enough." But when God sends him an angel, the doubtful Finkel sends him away. - NY Times, Lawrence Van Gelder
