Cheryl studied Drama at Bristol University then joined the BBC and worked in film and TV production for several years. She set up the WOMEN's Theatre WORKSHOP and developed the work of British and international women playwrights for over a decade, bringing plays by Dacia Maraini, Nawal el Sadaawi and Marina Carr to a UK audience for the first time. She founded AURORA METRO PRESS in 1989 and has published over 150 writers, initiating the VIRGINIA PRIZE FOR FICTION in 2009 and building the best list of plays for young people in the UK. She has edited over 70 books and translated plays and novels. She has had several plays produced successfully on the fringe in London, and has won the Croydon Warehouse International Playwriting Competition. She completed the MA in Playwriting with David Edgar at Birmingham University in 1991. Productions and Readings of her plays have been directed by Rufus Norris, Sarah Frankcom, Mark Ravenhill, Jenny Darnell, Alex Clifton and David Siebert among others.
