Adrian Ross born Arthur Reed Ropes on 23rd December 1859 in Lewisham. He studied at Cambridge and won the Chancellor's Medal for verse. It is said that he wrote his first libretto whilst recovery from a chill he caught whilst watching the University Boat Race. Ross wrote the lyrics for countless songs and for musicals and was a regular contributor to "Punch". He was a founding member of the Performing Rights Society. He died on 10th September 1933 from heart failure.

Boy, The
Synopsis:
Remarried widow Mrs Millicent Meebles always understates the age of her son to make herself appear younger. She says Hughie is fourteen - in fact he is nineteen. Hughie takes his step-father, a magistrate, to a nightclub. Millicent follows them as she wants to warn her sister Diana not to divulge Hughie's age. The nightclub is raided by the police. Mr Burridge escapes but Millicent and Diana are arrested. When Mr Burridge arrives at court next day Millicent and Diana are up before him. He has no choice but to sentence them to prison. However, another magistrate finds a legal loophole and the sentences are quashed

Count Of Luxembourg, The
Synopsis:
Grand Duke Rutzinov has fallen in love with Angele a commoner and may not marry her. He devises a way that she can get a title. He pays his friend Count Rene to marry her and then divorce her thus Angele will have a title. the marriage takes place with Angele behind a screen so she and Rene do not see each other. Later at a party they meet and are attracted to one another not knowing they are in fact married. When Angele finds out that Rene is her husband and that he only did it for the money she storms out. the Duke meanwhile has fallen in love with a Russian countess and wants her instead of Angele. Rene inherits a large sum of money and pays back the Duke.
