Alex Rubin is a New York City based writer, born in Philadelphia and raised in New Jersey. After taking a gap year between high school and college to apprentice at The New Victory Theatre, Alex pursued a BFA in Directing at Hofstra University from which she graduated with High Departmental Honors in 2009. Alex has had the support of too many incredible artists and mentors in her life to name, but her first fans were Barbara Stubbs, Anthony Sears, and her parents (and published authors) Michael and Trish Rubin. Alex has been thrilled to see her work in readings, workshops, and productions across the country. Plays include First Love (The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences); The Brothers Landry (The Dramatists Guild); The Song of Hiroshima (commissioned by Paul Capon); First Dance (The Union Club); What Flood Means in Football (45th Street Theatre); and Can't Die, Too Excited (Thunderclap Productions). Musicals and cabarets include At the Edge (Theater for the New City); Sorry, Not Sorry (45th Street Theatre); and The Best Little Hoarder in Television (BMI Workshop). Her songs have been featured in concerts at 54 Below, The Laurie Beechman Theatre, Temple University, Broadway Sessions, The Triad, Le Poisson Rouge, The Duplex, and The Metropolitan Room. Alex is a member of the BMI Workshop, the recipient of the 2006 Francis Ford Coppola Award, a 2012 SPACE on Ryder Farm resident, a proud member of the Dramatists Guild, and the 2013 Big Vision Empty Wallet Playwriting Fellow. After years working on Broadway in press and advertising, Alex is now a freelance copywriter. She intends to tell stories, whether they are 15 second commercial spots or three act dramas, for the rest of her life.

Synopsis:

Notes:
The Challenge: This month, writers (or their awesomely brave friends) were required to go on an online date. Their plays had to be based on the date in some way, and while the resultant play did not need to conform to the actual date, it had to be inspired by this firsthand experience. The plays were required to be no more than ten minutes in length with a maximum of three actors involved. Flights of fancy were encouraged.
