Born in Greenfield, MA on March 15, 1964, Ms. Ryan spent her early years hanging out with bad kids, smoking cigarettes, and questioning reality, then attended Holyoke Community College before it was cool. In addition to being a tableware sAnitation engineer, Ms. Ryan also worked as a short order cook, nose-ing salesperson, angst-ridden telemarketer, and sandblaster. She graduated with honors from Smith College as an Ada Comstock Scholar, winning the Denis Johnston prize for excellence in playwriting three times and the Jill Cummins MacLean Prize once. Ms. Ryan then earned her Artist Diploma in Playwriting at Julliard and her MFA from the University of Iowa Writer's Workshop, where she won the Distinguished Teaching award and was twice chosen to take part in the annual Iowa Playwrights Festival. Leah died on June 12, 2008 from leukemia

Cool, hilarious and provocative, Birth of nAsian is NuyorAsian trip hopcomedy theatre. Performer Kate Rigg brings you a host of edgy, surreal characters from a token Asian newscaster with a non-ethnic sounding name to a hundred year old trini to a China-Latina with an axe to grind. Accompanied by former classical-virtuoso-turned-rocking-electronic-violin-diva Lyris Hung on beats, live violin, samples and soundscape, Birth is a mix of comedy and spoken word pieces reflecting the urban voice of Asian America.

Pigeon

Synopsis:
Trep is 22. He has spent his life in a rent-controlled Lower East Side apartment with his mom, Arkad. Arkad used to design clothes for the punk divas of the '70s and '80s. Now she dates their ex-husbands. Trep's girlfriend Nina is from the Upper East Side. Her dad wants her to go to Harvard Law School, but she wants to be an alterna-rock singer. Boris, Arkad's current squeeze, is an old punk hero who used to be into beer and meth (lots of meth), but now he's into yoga and shiitake mushrooms. He's not quite as into Arkad as she would like him to be. Trep thinks Boris is an ass. Trep thinks pretty much everybody is an ass, with the possible exception of Nina. Unfortunately, Trep is so smitten with Nina that she really has no choice but to think he's an ass. It's doubly unfortunate that she used to have a picture of Boris in her high school locker. Uh oh.
