This adaptation of Ben Johnson's comedy from 1606 is a cutting satire on greed and lust. The play is full of contemptuous characters that plot and scheme to gather wealth and seek gratification from others. Volpone, a rich miser, taking advantage of the greed of his acquaintances, fakes sickness and death, excites their hopes of inheriting his fortune, and lures them into all kinds of shameful deeds. Though the play is 400 years old the themes are still as relevant in modern society. This adaptation makes this Jacobean classic accessible to a contemporary audience. Performance time 51 minutes.
