Simon's theatre work includes a stage version of Rough Crossings for Headlong, written by Caryl Phillips directed by Rupert Goold in 2007. He is Professor of Art History and History at Columbia University, writer and broadcaster for the BBC and Contributing Editor at the Financial Times. His books include Citizens: A Chronicle of the French Revolution, the History of Britain trilogy, The American Future: A History, and Scribble Scribble Scribble: Writing on Ice Cream, Obama, Churchill and My Mother. His books have won the Wolfson Award for History, the W.H Smith Prize for Literature, the National Academy of Arts and Letters Award for Literature and the National Book Critics' Circle Award for Non-Fiction.
