He received his Theatre training in Europe and has been Theatre Director of the Project Arts Centre, Programme Director of the Dublin Theatre Festival and Director of the Tivoli Theatre Dublin and the RHA Downstairs. Currently he is Artistic Director of the City Theatre Dublin. His Productions have been seen in Ireland, England, Germany, usa, Iceland, Wales, Scotland and France. As Author and Director: Plays and adaptations include Those Three Days (Pro Cathedral(Dublin and Divis Cathedral-Belfast) with Stephen Vernon, the Agamemnon (Red Kettle) Fragments Of IsabElla with Gabrielle Reidy for stage and film. With Christopher Nolan he created Torchlight And Laser Beams for the Dublin and Edinburgh Theatre Festivals. Brendan Behans' the Hostage (An Giall) with Niall Tobin, Dracula and the Yellow Man. His reinvestigations of the works of W.B.Yeats are celebrated, his production of the Cuchulain Cycle has been described "as the most vigorouisly Dramatic presentation of Yeats seen in four decades" His two chamber operas based on plays by W.B Yeats Purgatory and the Dreaming of the Bones have been acclaimed. An adaptation of Aeschylus's classic Greek play which recalls Clytemestra's murder of her husband, Agamemnon, following his return from the Trojan Wars, in retaliation for his sacrificing of their daughter Iphigenia.

Hostage, The / An Giall

Synopsis:
Set in the 1950, the IRA ( not as we know them today) kidnap a 16 year old soldier and bring him to a whore house to keep him hostage. He falls in love with a young servant girl in the house and is accidentally killed when the police storm the house. Behan was writing in the 60's about the IRA which in the 50's which he saw as "terrorists after work or at weekends". This new translation is an exact translation of the original play and does not include many characters from the HOSTAGE - hence the title Hostage/An Giall, only the characters in An Giall are in this version. the songs Behan wrote for the Hostage were included.

Santa & the Present Pirates

Synopsis:
Santa and his Chief Elf Poggle have packed the sleigh full of presents at the North Pole late on Christmas Eve, Doc his faithful dog is keeping guard. Santa sits down to have some tea and biscuits before they set off and he falls asleep in his favourite chair. When he's asleep Captain Crabbe and his crew of sneaky Pirates sneak in and steal all the Christmas presents and Doc, Santa's dog gets kidnapped as well cos he was hinding in them keeping guard. When Santa wakes up there's no evidence of who took the presents, except for a big black flag over the fireplace with a skull and cross bones drawn on it. It can mean one thing only. . . . .Pirates! Santa and Poggle, vow to track the pirates down, rescue Doc and get the presents back and save Christmas before it's too late. Together they embark on a series of adventures taking them to exotic places where they meet a host of colourful characters - the Crazy Tucans, Miriam the Mermaid, Twinkle the Out Of Work Fairy, who help - and hinder - them in their search for the evil hearted Captain Crabbe and the presents before Captain Crabbe has time to feed Doc to his pet shark.

Synopsis:
the show is divided into 3 acts: Part One By the Boyne - the People of the town of Trim wait by the banks of the Boyne for the battle to start - the women wash clothes the farmers farm - word is brought that help is needed for the battle -
Part Two the Fair Day - the Day the first train arrived in Trim - the people come for miles across the hills to see it - with all the progress ten miles away people are still evicted from their homes.
Part Three Two local folk stories in different styles, "the Salmon of Knowledge" and "the Children of Lir"
